Euro 2012: Spain reach final, beating Portugal on penalties

Donetsk, Ukraine: Spain won a thriller on penalties here in Donbass Arena, beating Portugal 4-2 to enter the Euro 2012 final.

Portugal were awarded many free kicks during but to no avail. Every time Ronaldo’s kicked, it flew over the goal post.

Alonso also continued trying to enliven proceedings with shots from many a yard away from goal posts.

Fabregas scored the winning penalty for Spain, booking their place in the final.

Alves missed a penalty for Portugal, leaving Spain a 4 -2 win in penalties.

Nani said to BBC Sport: “We did everything we could but this is football. We have to congratulate Spain.”

Tomorrow’s semi-final between Germany and Italy in Warsaw will decide who will come face-to-face with the Spaniards.
