Prolonged outages: Protesters go on rampage in Punjab

Faisalabad: Enraged mobs went on rampage in the different parts of Punjab for the second consecutive day on Monday over prolonged  loadshedding of upto 20 hours, ransacking public property, including petrol pumps, markets and banks with some surrounding resident of ruling Pakistan People’s Party leaders.     

Factory workers along with local residents set off for FESCO headquarters to record their protest,destroying public property to vent their anger.

They said they would not let anybody working if electricity was not restored to the  factories functioning.

They said they were rendered jobless as factories in Faisalabad had been shut due to power outages.

Situation turned horrible when a large umber of protesters surrounded resident of Adviser to Prime Minister Hamid Yar Hiraj in Khanewal. Seeing the infuriated  mob security guards deputed at his bungalow opened indiscriminate firing, killing one and injuring.

The continuous protests eventually prompted the prime minister to step in with the announcement to call another energy conference. The PM also issued instructions for increase in electricity production.
