Toronto: Luka Rocco Magnotta, who allegedly killed his friend Lin Jun and sent his dismembered body to various places, is on his way back to Canada from Berlin in a military jet, officials said.
According to a joint email statement from Minister of Justice Rob Nicholson and Minister of Public Safety Vic Toews, Magnotta left Berlin on Monday in the custody of Montreal police.
“Our Government’s cooperation with the international community has led to this individual being swiftly returned to face justice,” the statement said.
“It is important that Canadians can have confidence that those who are accused of serious crimes will face the full force of the law.”
Canadian police officials welcomed support from the government of Germany, and denied giving details as the matter is in court presently.
Berlin police arrested Luka Rocco Magnotta on June 4 in a case in which dismembered body parts were mailed to Ottawa at the headquarters of the governing Conservative party and other addresses.
Magnotta, 29, faces charges of first-degree murder and indignity to a corpse and had said earlier he would not fight extradition to Canada.
