Beijing: President Asif Ali Zardari said Pakistan and the United States shares common interests and expressed the hopes that relations between both the countries would soon be normalized.

In an interview with Chinese newspaper, the president said he was assured that Pak-US relations would improve soon.

When asked to comment on Leon Panetta’s remarks about US would continue attacking alleged al-Qaeda safe havens in Pakistan, the Pakistani president said that some politicians make such statements for political gains inside their countries.

He was of the view that it was the election year in the US and most of such statement would be based on internal situation.

Zardari said nobody understood affects of war on terror on Pakistan despite it had lost more than 40000 people and got its economic situation worse.

He dispelled the notion that Pakistan was sheltering terrorists.
