Beijing: A baby was born in China with no eyes, instead there is only smooth skin. Hopes emerged after local doctors have found that the baby, Marwanijung, had an eye under the skin on his left socket.

Doctors had told Marwanijung’s parents, both 26, that their son had a left eye, and that it was blocked by skin.

But now doctors say they cannot remove the skin because the eye underneath has no lens, and is too sensitive to be exposed.

The boy loves playing with a torch because he can still sense the light. After the latest tests the baby’s father has high hopes that one day Marwanijung will be able to see. His parents hope he will be able to have an artificial eye fitted once he is 16

He said: “From eight months old, he was addicted to flashing his left eye with a flashlight. He is eager to see light, and we prayed every day that he could see the light.”
