Lahore: Legendry Pakistani cricketer Zaheer Abbas on Wednesday welcomed the indication of resumption of Pakistan-India bilateral series saying the cricket lovers would have a treat to watch the arch-rivals teams clashing on the field.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Zaka Ashraf after a meeting with its Indian counterpart had announced that the bilateral cricket series between both the countries would resume soon.
“Pak-India bilateral series is a most-wanted by the Asian people and even the world,” he said.
Zaheer said a Pak-India series is the dire need of the hour as it has been ages since the two have meet each-other in a series except in the World Cup semi- final match and the Asia Cup.
“The cricket lovers all around the world want to see Pak-India meet in the field,” the former skipper said.
Zaheer believes that the series would provide a big breakthrough in improving relations between the two countries that were messed up after the 2008 Mumbai attacks. An India team was due to tour Pakistan in early 2009 but the visit was cancelled.
“A Pak-India series should be kept on any former great cricketer’s name, Ranjit Singhji, Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev or from Pakistan Javed Miandad, Imran Khan to make it a memorable moment for both the countries to cherish for,” he said.
