HRCP urges government to ensure fair trial of Dr Afridi

Islamabad: The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan has called on the government to ensure transparent trial of US agent Dr Shakil Afridi.

The commission said that fair trial was a legal right of Dr Afridi and he could not be deprived of it on the pretext of national security.

Meanwhile, security of Peshawar Jail has been increased with the heavy deployment of law enforcement agencies, keeping detention of Dr Afridi in the prison.

According to sources, tight security arrangement have been made to avoid incident of Bannu jail, that was attacked by Taliban insurgents and ended up with the escape of several militants.

  Dr Shakil Afridi has been handed down thirteen year jail term for treason and spying for other  country.

  Afridi ran a fake vaccination campaign in Abbottabad to get DNA samples of bin Laden family before the US raid that killed al-Qaeda chif on May last year.
