Pakistan: 32% males, 15% females participate in Sufis URS: Survey

Islamabad: Around 32 percent of men and 15 percent of Pakistani Women claim they participated in an annual congregation or festival (Urs) at a Sufi shrine during the last one year, says a survey by Gilani Poll and Gallup Pakistan.

According to a Gilani Research Foundation Survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan, 32% of Men and 15% of Pakistani Women claim they participated in an annual congregation at a Sufi shrine during the last one year.

A nationally representative sample of men and women from across the four provinces was asked “Did you get a chance to attend an annual congregation / festival (Urs) at a Sufi shrine in the last one year?”

Responding to the query, 32 percent males claim that they have participated in Urs in the past one year while 66 percent claim that they did not get a chance and 2 percent did not give a view.

About 15 percent of females claim that they participated in an annual Urs at a Sufi shrine in the past one year while 83 percent claim that they did not get a chance and 2 percent did not give a view.

The recent survey was carried out among a sample of 2697 men and women in rural and urban areas of all four provinces of the country, during April 15 – April 21, 2012.
