Naples, Florida: Disco legend Donna Summer died of cancer in Florida on Thursday, aged 63. Known as the queen of disco, she dominated the 1970s and 80s disco era.
Her hits included “Love to Love You Baby”, “Last Dance” and “I Feel Love”.
“Early this morning, we lost Donna Summer Sudano, a woman of many gifts, the greatest being her faith,” AFP quoted a family statement as saying.
“While we grieve her passing, we are at peace celebrating her extraordinary life and her continued legacy. Words truly can’t express how much we appreciate your prayers and love for our family at this sensitive time.”
Summer won five Grammys and sold more than 130 million records worldwide.
Earlier, celebrity website TMZ.com that she had been diagnosed with lung cancer. Publicist Brian Edwards also confirmed she died of cancer but he declined to comment on a report from the website that she had been diagnosed with lung cancer, Reuters reported.
