Peshawar: The construction work on Imran Khan’s Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre in Peshawar costing Rs1.4 billion would start in September this year. This was stated in a high level meeting chaired by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti on Tuesday.
Senior Minister Bashir Bilour, Health Minister Syed Zahir Ali Shah, Secretary Finance Sahibzada Saeed Ahmad, Secretary Health Ashfaq Khan , chief engineer of Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre and representatives of its administration attended the meeting.
The meeting was told that the construction of the hospital building would be over in three years. And certain facilities for treatment would be available after the completion of the first phase of construction. The administration of the hospital declared that it presently had Rs200 million for the construction work.
PTI chairman Imran Khan last week told a TV channel that KPK government had provided a piece of land for the construction of hospital.
Khan said he appreciated the ANP governments cooperation which is was extending got the construction of cancer hospital. Khan said he was critic of the ANP government but applauded its move. However, he the Sindh government was not ready to provide land in Karachi for the construction of the same medical facility.
