Bogota: Two people were killed and over dozen injured after a bomb blast in Colombia’s capital, Bogota. Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos said a former interior minister was the target.

Former minister Fernando Londono was hurt but is out of danger, AFP quoted the president as saying.

Ina brief televised declaration, he said that the driver and a police escort of Londono were killed in the bombing, which occurred on Tuesday in a commercial area of Bogota at Calle 74 and Caracas Avenue.

The attacks have become very rare since the Colombian government started countering the leftist Revolutionary Armed Forces

The Colombian government has been battling the leftist Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia for five decades but the rebel group has lost strength in recent years and they rarely carry out attacks in the capital.

“We’re investigating what happened … unfortunately two people were killed,” General Luis Eduardo Martinez of the police force told a local television network.
