May 12: Karachi would have been saved from target killing and terrorism, says Nawaz Shareef

Lahore: President Pakistan Muslim League-N Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has said that had the responsible of Karachi tragedy of May 12, 2007 been taken to task, the Karachi would have been saved from target killing and terrorism. He hoped that time will certainly come when the culprits and the secret hands involved in carnage of May 12 will be awarded punishment.

In a statement, Nawaz Sharif said that the bloodshed committed five years ago for stopping the entry of Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry in Karachi is no doubt a black chapter of our history. He said that Chief Justice was detained at airport the whole day and the roads were closed through containers. He said that the bullets were fired on the lawyers, political workers and people coming out for the welcome of Chief Justice and 50 innocent persons were killed.

Nawaz Sharif said that the dictator on the same night of terrorism which took place under the patronage of government termed it as a demonstration of power of the people in his favour by waving his fist. He said that Sindh High Court took sou moto notice and started hearing but the workers of the party responsible of this tragedy besieged the court.

Former Pakistani Prime Minister and PMLN president Muhammad Nawaz Sharif said that judiciary was restored through power of the masses but defiance of decisions of judiciary and the process of ridiculing its orders is continuing. He said that a person convicted by the Supreme Court of country in contempt of court is still a prime minister and if this gang was not removed from corridors of power, the independent judiciary will be of no use.

Earlier PML-N President Mian Nawaz Sharif asked his party leaders to start preparations for a long march to oust the government; meanwhile the PML-N carried out rallies in Dadu and Khairpur against the government, which were lead by PML-N Sindh President Syed Ghaus Ali Shah and Liaquat Ali Khan Jatoi.

According to the sources Nawaz Sharif has asked the party leaders to activate the party workers at local level for the preparations of the long march.

Nawaz has directed the central leaders of the party to call tehsil and district level meetings of workers so as to convey message about the long march to the masses and in turn to motivate them to join the long march.

Sources said that the final decision about the date of the long march would be made at the meeting of the Central Executive Committee of PML (N), which would be held soon.

Nawaz Sharif’s call for the long march came a day after power blackouts triggered violent protests across Punjab.

Meanwhile the PML-N took out rallies against the government in Khairpur and Dadu.

The PML-N Sindh Chief Syed Ghaus Ali Shah led the rally in Khairpur. Addressing the anti-government rally, Ghaus Shah noted the government has pushed the country towards the devastation; but, the conscious masses are out on roads against the rulers.
