London: The Premier League title race will go down to the last game of the season after Manchester City FC earned a 2-0 win at Newcastle United FC, while rivals Manchester United FC overcame Swansea City AFC by the same scoreline.

Roberto Mancini’s side faced a stern examination of their resolve, as Newcastle pressed and harried their opponents in a fraught opening. The Citizens kept their composure, however, and were rewarded when Yaya Touré (70) delicately placed the ball beyond Tim Krul, before the Ivorian struck again to quash any lingering doubts.

Reluctant to be disheartened, United pulled level on points with their city rivals at Old Trafford in the late kick-off, as goals from Paul Scholes and Ashley Young steered the home side into an unassailable lead. Sir Alex Ferguson’s charges travel to Sunderland AFC for their final fixture as they hunt a record 20th title, reliant on City dropping points at home to Queens Park Rangers FC due to their superior goal difference.

Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur FC failed to reclaim third place after being held to a 1-1 draw with Aston Villa FC, while QPR bolstered their survival hopes by beating Stoke City FC 1-0. Bolton Wanderers FC’s Premier League status remains in the balance, however, following a 2-2 draw with West Bromwich Albion FC. Elsewhere, Fulham FC saw off Sunderland 2-1, while Wolverhampton Wanderers FC and Everton FC drew 0-0.
