Islamabad: Pakistan has condemned US drone strike in North Waziristan that killed at least 10 people on Saturday (today) and termed it illegal and in sheer violation of international laws.

In a weekly media briefing on Saturday, Foreign Office Spokesman Muazzam Khan said that Pakistan has a clear stance that the drone strikes were against its security and sovereignty.

“Drone strikes inflict strategic losses instead of technical gains,” he said.

Pakistan has long been publicly opposing the US drone strikes, saying the strikes proved counter-productive in the war on terror.

However, some US officials assert that they have a tacit approval from Pakistani authorities to hit militants in the restive tribal region.

Relations between both the countries dipped to new low as a US cross border raid killed at least 26 Pakistani soldiers November last years. Pakistan closed Nato supply routes and got vacated the Shamsi airbase, which experts had been used as a base for dangerous US machines, in the aftermath of the cross border raid.
