Karachi: In what appeared to be a shocking revelation, Karachi police said that lie detector machine Voice Stress Analyzer (VSA) proved to be useless while interrogating accused held in terrorism related charges.
Daily Jang, Pakistan’s top Urdu language newspaper said in a report published on Friday that the United Nations and the United States had provided 2 Voice Stress Analyzer (VSA), 2 Explosive Analyzers, 500 Civil Disturbance Management Equipment Sets and other equipment and vehicles to Karachi police to arrest and investigate terrorists .
Police personnel were also trained abroad to use the equipment. Sindh Inspector Gen Mushtaq Shah and SSP CID Fayaz Khan also confirmed to the newspaper that such equipment had been acquired. However they didn’t comment on lie detector machine.
A CID officer speaking on the condition of anonymity told the paper that the lie detector machine had failed to produce better results.
“We (Pakistanis) are used to speaking lies and such fraudulent techniques are adopted by criminals that the equipment didn’t detect their lies,” he told Daily Jang.
The officer said, in Europe, people don’t speak much lies and often confess to their crimes to avoid harsh sentences.
