Islamabad:The National Assembly has passed a resolution on South Punjab province amid protest by the opposition against Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani .
The resolution was tabled by Federal Law Minister Farooq H Naik on Thursday. The house also passed a resolution, reposing confidence in Prime Minister Gilani.
The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz lodged strong protest in the house whit its members holding pla cards and chanting slogans against Mr Gilani.
The PML-N lawmakers tore apart copies of agenda and hurled on Federal Information Minister Kamar Zaman Kaira.
The Nawaz-League lawmakers scuffled with PPP members.
The government and its allies exploited the opportunity and adopted the resolution, espousing creation of new province in South Punjab.
The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) felicitated people of South Punjab and said more provinces should be carved out in the country, including Hazara province.
Muhammad Ali Durrani, a senior politician and member of Bahawalpur province movement, termed the resolution an illegal move, saying Gilani and his cabinet was not legitimate after the Supreme Court orders.
