Islamabad: The United States has formally sought Pakistan’s help to make effective sanctions on Iran, sources said on Monday.

The sources said that the US had sent a  request to the Foreign Ministry that Pakistani companies be instructed not to engage in business activities with Iran.

However, The sources said that  the foreign ministry had written to the business community that the US sanctions didn’t bar them from doing business with Tehran.

The UN, US and Western powers had imposed stiff sanctions on Iran over its disputed nuclear program claiming that Tehran sought to obtain nuclear weapons. However, Iran denied the charges, saying its nuclear program was aimed at peaceful purpose.
