Islamabad: United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is the largest fund provider to Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
USAID has shown special interest in working of Election Commission since it has started preparing electoral lists.
USAID had wished to donate 3.5 million dollars to ECP when it started preparing electoral lists in March 2010; however the ECP refused to accept the donation fearing theft of data, official sources revealed.
“USAID was requested to provide funds to make buildings and to get organized computer system on modern pattern for ECP,” they added.
USAID is the largest fund provider to the ECP that is why the commission has provided special space in its central secretariat for the donor agency.
Dozens of workers of USAID are working there on regular basis. In addition, many programs are being held with help of USAID like workshops and workers’ training besides provision of equipment like ballet box.
