Lahore: The Punjab Forum on Wednesday said the unjust distribution of energy resources has resulted in a deep sense of deprivation among the people of Punjab which may lead country towards a civil war.
Policy of penalising Punjab continues unabated and peaceful as well as enabling business environment is being destroyed which can take an ugly turn any time, it said.
Distribution of energy on political basis has closed industry and left millions jobless which has made it a matter of life and death for the people, said Baig Raj, President Punjab Forum in a statement issued here today.
He said that protesting energy shortfall is right of the masses and but this issue can be resolved by initiating construction of Kala Bagh dam, the cheapest, rapid and most effective way to attain energy security.
Baig Raj said that energy crisis calls for out of the box solutions and consensus of issues of national importance but government is hell-bent on employing ad hoc measures since four years that has helped them achieve nothing.
These measures have left country with one-third of the installed power production capacity and a shortfall of eight thousand MW, he said adding that the circular debt issue will force 10 IPPs to stop production within days plunging whole country into darkness.
Anti-Punjab lobbies are impeding progress on Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline on the behest of America which amounts to strangulating the economy, he said.
He said that rulers are only interested in maximising their money stashed in foreign banks; they want next government to inherit nothing but problems.
People in Punjab have started asking questions about misuse and mismanagement of allocated resources due to apathy of ruler mafia which has pushed millions below the poverty line, he said.
Baig Raj asked the Chief Justice Pakistan Mr. Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry to take suo moto note of the unjust distribution of gas and electricity to avert a situation which will be regretted by everyone.
