Islamabad: Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani will travel to Qatar next week to talk with government leaders there about moves to broker a peace deal with the Afghan Taliban, reports said on Saturday.
Associated Press news agency reported that the prime minister would be in Qatar on Monday to discuss the peace process with the government there.
The news agency Pakistan is an important player in moves to end the 10-year-old war in Afghanistan because many of the leaders of the insurgency are said to be sheltering on its territory.
Talking to a private television on Saturday, Foreign Office Spokesman Abdul Basit confirmed that the premier would visit Qatar next week as part of country’s efforts to bring peace in Afghanistan, “As far as our point of view regarding Afghanistan future is concerned we will support every effort that could lead to stable Afghanistan. international community is started considering Pakistan’s view point of holding talks to end the conflict,” he said.
While answering a question regarding Haqqani Network, the spokesman said all groups and leaders should be part of the negotiations as it was imperative for lasting peace in war-torn country.
