Washington:  US Vice President Joe Biden has said that he  advised President Barack Obama not to immediately allow the raid on the compound in Pakistan where Osama bin Laden was thought to be hiding.

He said his answer was in negation when Obama sought his opinion whether to order Navy SEALs to raid the compound in Abbottabad.

“My suggestion is, don’t go. We have to do two more things to see if he’s there.” He recalled.

According to media reports,   Biden recalled the conversation while addressing Democratic members of Congress on Friday at a retreat in Cambridge, Md.

Biden said Obama also sought opinions from senior advisers, including the Joint Chiefs of Staff. He recalled that no one was willing to give a definitive answer except then-CIA Director Leon Panetta, now Defence secretary,  who told Obama to move forward with the SEALs operation.
