KARACHI: Hundreds of thousands Pakistanis enraged by the early Saturday airstrike by NATO that killed 24 Pakistan Army’s soldiers, took to streets burning US flags and effigies of President Barak Obama.
Held under the banners of different political, opposition and right-wing parties across the country, the demonstrations called for severing ties with US for what they said naked aggression against Pakistan sovereignty.
In Karachi hundreds of people gathered outside the US consulate and held protest demonstration.
Shouting “down with America, stay away Americans, Pakistan is ours,” the protestor burnt US flags.
Protests were also held outside Karachi Press Club, dueing which political activists burnt effigies of President Obama.
In the central city of Multan, hundreds of PML-N activists and traders took to the streets, burning US and NATO flags.
Addressing the rally, PML-N senior leader Javed Hashmi asked the government to end its alliance in the US-led “war on terror”.
In Islamabad, at activists of the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) held a rally.
“We strongly condemn the attack and the killing of our soldiers,” local JI chief Mian Aslam told the rally, as protestors chanted “Pakistan is America’s graveyard.”
