The Baqai Institute of Diabetology and Endocrinology organised a diabetes awareness event.
The experts further pointed out during the event that half-an-hour daily walk is the best exercise for avoidance of various ailments, including diabetes.
If left uncontrolled, diabetes can lead to serious complications such as heart disease, kidney failure, blindness and foot ulcers, culminating in leg amputation, they warned.
They said that insulin is “life saving” for the children suffering from the disease and that no diabetic kid should be deprived of insulin.
Chancellor of Baqai Medical University Professor FU Baqai, President International Diabetes Federation and Secretary General Pakistan Diabetes Association Professor Abdul Samad Shera and Vice-Chancellor of Baqai Medical University Lt. General (Retd) S. Azhar Ahmed inaugurated the “Diabetes Awareness Walk” after the event.
The purpose of the walk was to create awareness among masses regarding diabetes, its prevention and management and to stress the importance and need of regular physical activity and exercise.
The National Diabetes and Diabetic Foot Programme was launched in collaboration with the World Diabetes Foundation aimed at creating awareness regarding diabetes and its complications particularly the diabetic foot.
It was stated that “Insulin” is life saving for the children suffering from diabetes, deprivation of which could prove fatal to them.
“Insulin-my life” programme has been initiated with the support of World Diabetes Foundation.
Under this programme, free insulin would be provided to the non-affording diabetic children at thirty four places across the province of Sindh, Prof Abdul Basit pledged.
“No child should die only because of the parent’s inability to afford insulin” is our motto, the professor declared.
